OSCE facilitates U.S. Assistant Secretary of State’s visit to the Regional Explosive Hazards Training Center

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu; Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary Laura Cooper; National Security Council Director for Central Asia Maureen Haggard and Ambassador of the United States to Tajikistan Manuel Micaller visited a Regional Explosive Hazards Training Centre of Tajikistan’s Defence Ministry in Chimteppa on 26 April 2023. The visit was hosted by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.

The purpose of the high-level delegation's visit was to get familiarized with projects/programmes implemented by the US Department of State in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and the Central Asian region.

During the visit, Colonel Sulaimon Qodirzoda, Director of the Training Centre made a presentation on the activities of the Centre to the US delegation. The delegation also took the opportunity to see a demonstration of sub-surface clearance procedures using unexploded ordnance detectors by women deminers from the Norwegian People`s Aid team.

The Ministry of Defence demonstrated an exhibition of demining equipment used during the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-related training, which was transferred as part of the in-kind support and co-operation of the United States Army Central (USARCENT) to the Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan.

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe was represented by Tea Jaliashvili, Acting Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, and Jukka Tuononen, Head of the Political-Military Department at the OSCE Programme Office.
